After lunch, continue by boat to Portovenere, the treasure of Eastern Liguria. It stretches out over a rocky spur with the church of S.Pietro on its top: the church is built in Genoese Gothic style and dominated by an impressive castle. Portovenere offers a succession of tall nicely painted houses overlooking the sea and the attraction of many medieval corners. Then, boat to La Spezia. Return by bus to Genova. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
SANTA MARGHERITA – PORTOFINO – RAPALLO
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by bus from the hotel in Genoa. Set on the Eastern part of the Tigullio bay, the town of Rapallo is a famous tourist resort thanks to a well-deserved fame as an exclusive health resort. Once a free town, it became part of the Genoese republic in 1229 and Rapallo’s Castle is the symbol of that period. Departure from Rapallo to Santa Margherita Ligure, a beautiful city in the East Riviera; visit and free time for lunch. Continue by boat to Portofino. Set in a stupendous bay, it is a fisherman village with houses overlooking the harbour and its square. Portofino is one of the favourite resorts for VIP’s. The history of this village starts when it entered the dominion of the Republic of Genoa and St George’s fort and castle are a symbol of that period. The fishermen’s boats were a sign of the predominantly seafaring activity of its men, which was linked, to that of its women: the creation of an extremely fine lace, which can still be bought here. Then departure from Portofino to San Fruttuoso by boat. In San Fruttuoso there is a beautiful monastery, once pantheon of a powerful Genoese family, the Doria. Return by boat to Santa Margherita Ligure and continue to Genoa by bus. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
