ALTOMONTE – PAOLA
Morning departure for Altomonte. Upon arrival, guided tour of some rare collections of 14 th century art and paintings. Visit the City hall, formerly a convent with a cloister. Stop for lunch in a typical Calabria’s eatery. After lunch, departure for Paola. Visit Saint Francis Sanctuary Christian centre of Calabria. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Morning departure for Reggio Calabria. Visit the Museum, housing two of the most important findings in the World the “Bronzi di Riace”, two well preserved statues of warriors retrieved from the sea, by fishermen in the early 70’s. Continue with a motoroach city tour of Reggio Calabria. Afternoon free for shopping. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
GERACE & LOCRI’S EXCAVATIONS
Morning departure for Gerace. Visit City of Gerace. Continue toward Locri. Visit one of the most important Greek colony in Italy and at its museum near the excavations. On the way back to the hotel, a short stop at Gioiosa Marina to savour a special ice cream. Dinner and overnight.
Morning bus tour of Vibo Valentia and shop at the Castle. Afternoon is yours for shopping or personal adventure. Return to the hotel for dinner & overnight.
CROTONE – CATANZARO
Morning departure for Crotone and visit at the museum. View the ancient Greek Jewels of “Era Lacinia”. City tour of Crotone, known as Kroton, was once the most powerful Greek town in Calabria. Mathematician Pythagoras, and many prominent men of science, where born in Crotone , that in ancient time, made Kroton famous. Continue for “Le Castella” for a brief stop to view an Aragon’s Castle, built in the sea , and linked to the mainland, by a thin strip of land. Continue towards Catanzaro, the capital city, for a downtown stroll and view the Norman Castle. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
TROPEA – PIZZO CALABRO – CAPO VATICANO
Morning departure for Tropea, a very ancient town, said to have been founded by the Phoenicians who used its port for supplies. Stop at the Cathedral, built on top of an older church dating 1000 years ago. View the balconies overlooking the sea and the church of Saint Mary of the Island an old Basilean Convent. Visit some coral works, before continuing toward Capo Vaticano and its cliffs overlooking the sea. Continue toward Pizzo Calabro, view this famous Castle from the outside, where Joaquin Murat was executed, by his brother-in law Napoleon, King of Naples. Stroll into the old borough and marina, if you wish, for a special truffle ice cream. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
